Information for Qualified Students

What does ‘Revalidation’ mean?

Revalidation is the name given to the process of re-assessing you regularly.  We need to ensure that instructors who are working with individuals with heart disease are continuing to practice safely within BACR guidelines.

You are required to revalidate every 3 years to keep your qualification.

Your revalidation assessment is due if:-

  • It is 3 years since you passed your BACR Phase IV assessment
  • It is 3 years since you passed your last revalidation

Revalidation involves sitting a one hour assessment.  If you are successful you will be sent a new certificate which will be valid for a further 3 years.

Am I eligible for CPD credits if I revalidate?CPD

You will be entitled to 6 CPD credits from the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) for revalidation of this qualification.

If you send us your REPS membership number we will notify REPS that you have passed our revalidation assessment and you will automatically be awarded your 6 CPD credits.

How do I revalidate?

Two to three months before the expiry date on your certificate, you will be sent a letter asking whether you would like to revalidate.  If you move house and do not notify us, you will not receive a reminder.

The revalidation process is based on home study, and you will need to revise using your course training manual.

The assessment is a one hour written paper, which you can sit at various venues around the country.  It contains three sections:-

  • Clinical
  • Risk Stratification
  • Exercise programming

Following a review of the revalidation process by the Steering Committee on 2nd April 2008, we no longer require evidence of current CPR, insurance, or a letter confirming your continuing work with CHD clients. However, we would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to ensure that both CPR and insurance are kept up to date.

The cost of revalidation is £50 (includes increase effective April 2008).  Cheques are payable to ‘BACR Phase IV Training’.

What should I do if my certificate has already expired?

Please contact the office immediately if you find that your certificate has expired.  We allow you six months from the expiry of your certificate to sit your assessment.

If you wish to revalidate and have not booked an assessment within six months of the expiry of your certificate, you may be required to attend the whole BACR Phase IV Exercise Instructor training course again, please contact us to discuss this further.

Please contact us if you are unsure whether you are eligible to revalidate.
Graduates who do not revalidate within six months of the expiry date of their certificate will be taken off the central database.
